This is a new variant (replaces the “Plus” tier style) with its own trade‑offs. Unique / standout features:
- The thinnest iPhone ever: just 5.6 mm thick. Very lightweight.
- Titanium frame (Grade 5) + breakthrough design (the “plateau” on back) to maximize internal space & battery in a slim body.
- Ceramic Shield front + Ceramic Shield 2; also Ceramic Shield on back for first time (protection both front & back) → much better crack and scratch resistance.
- 6.5‑inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion 120Hz; same peak outdoor brightness (~3000 nits) & better anti‑reflection / contrast. Always‑On etc.
- A19 Pro chip (better than standard model), plus custom modem (C1X), new N1 wireless chip (Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread).
- Camera: single 48MP rear (Fusion) with 2× telephoto (from the same lens), 18MP Center Stage front cam; dual capture video; improved image pipeline (Photonic Engine etc.).

Trade‑offs relative to other models: to get thinness and lightweight, it lacks some of the camera versatility (no ultrawide), probably fewer “pro” video features, maybe reduced charging speed / thermal headroom.

iPhone 17 Pro / Pro Max
These are the high end models with the most “pro”‑oriented features. Unique features include:
- New forged aluminum unibody / full‑width “Camera Plateau” design. The plateau spans the width of the rear; aluminum alloy used is 7000‑series aerospace grade.
- Vapour chamber cooling inside to better dissipate heat, improve sustained performance.
- Upgraded display: Ceramic Shield 2 front; for the first time Ceramic Shield on the back (so improved crack resistance). Peak brightness ~3000 nits, improved outdoor contrast; ProMotion 120Hz etc.
- New chip: A19 Pro (higher performance GPU, CPU, with Neural Accelerators in each GPU core, larger cache, more memory vs previous generation).
- Cameras: All three rear lenses are 48MP Fusion: main, ultra-wide, and telephoto. Specifically telephoto uses a tetraprism design, much larger sensor (~56% larger) for telephoto to improve sharpness & detail. Optical zoom: 4× telephoto (100mm), and 8× “fusion” zoom. Higher digital zoom capability too (~40×) in some modes.
- Pro video features: ProRes RAW, Log2, genlock & time‑code support, broadcast frame rates, open gate video recording. These are video modes aimed at professionals / creators.
